As with all components manufactured by the prestigious Lincoln brand, a Lincoln car’s brakes are exceptionally long-lasting and durable. But with enough wear and tear, even the toughest of brakes eventually need repairing. If you experience the following issues, Schedule a Service Appointment at Star Lincoln in Southfield, MI right away for brake repair

Fading Brakes

When brakes overheat, it’s possible for them to suddenly lose stopping power. This phenomenon is called brake fade. It’s caused by a minuscule amount of gas escaping from melting brake pad resin, which coats the pad, reducing its friction against the rotor disc.

Brake fade can occur after too much continual time in heavy stop-and-go traffic, which can sometimes heat brakes to 500 or 600 degrees Fahrenheit. If you ever find your brakes refusing to respond as rapidly as normal, you may be experiencing brake fade. Pull over at once, and when the brakes have cooled down, if the problem remains, have a technician take a look.

Soft Brakes

If you try to slow your car and the brake pedal feels soft or spongy, you may have a leak in one of the brake lines. When brake fluid leaks out from a brake line, hydraulic force is lost and the damaged line can no longer transmit stopping power properly to the connected caliper. Needless to say, this is very dangerous and should be repaired at once.

Uneven Brakes

When a brake issue develops, it’s rarely on both sides of the car at the same time. This means brake power will reduce on just one side of the car, which may cause tugging to the left or right when you press the pedal.

Noisy Brakes

When brakes make a lot of noise, it doesn’t always mean there’s a serious problem. There might be some condensation or dust on the brake pad, which causes squeaking and disappears after a short while.

But prolonged squeaking might indicate one of your brake pads has worn down too far and needs to be replaced. Grinding or clattering noises might mean that something has come loose in one of your calipers or a brake pad is stuck against the rotor. Any of these issues require the prompt attention of a technician.

Vibrating Brakes

When a rotor becomes overheated, it can sometimes get scored by the brake pad. An overheating rotor disc can also occasionally begin to warp out of shape, especially if it’s already worn down and on its last legs. If a damaged rotor isn’t too thin yet, it can sometimes be repaired with resurfacing, but usually, you’ll need a new rotor.
